A presentation from Rippleglen Limited

Rippleglen was established by Harry Medcalf, and was incorporated in England as a private limited company in February 1979. The business is managed today by Mike Colley, although Harry remains as Chairman and spends two days most weeks at the Head Office in Birmingham. The first shop was situated in Cotteridge, Birmingham and the business has grown to a thriving group of 156 newsagent shops located in town & city centres and bus stations throughout England & Wales. The shops trade under four different fascias; Arden News, Supernews, Supercigs & Candies. The 11 specialist bus station shops trade as Arden News, their aim being to provide a tailor made service for the travelling public.

Arden News carries an extensive range of magazines and  newspapers, together with confectionery, minerals, crisps, tobacco, lottery and mobile telephone top-ups.

Chilled drinks & mineral water at Arden News

The bus station shops specialise in fast & friendly service and aim to provide optimum availability of products within the range. Experience tells us that our customers do indeed have a bus to catch, and there is nothing more irritating than dashing into a shop only to find it out of stock of your favourite product!

We pride ourselves on being innovators in travel point retailing and have established a blue print of customer needs and wants. Our customers don’t want groceries, nor do they need large bulky items. They want newspapers, magazines, self treats and snacks to consume on their journey or at work. The bus station is often the last chance before your customer arrives home to buy their lottery ticket, the dream of retiring from the rat race!  They need to trust that your retail partner will provide the right service and is every bit as professional as the operating bus company.

Soft drinks and mineral waters have become an important part of the product range in travel locations and Arden News, in partnership with Smith Kline Beecham, provide a broad range of goods in eye catching cabinets.

Service with a Smile!

Customers need space to move around the shop, we also appreciate the number of mothers with pushchairs and people with a variety of disabilities who regularly use buses. They require extra help and space to enjoy shopping. Our staff are trained, and our shops are designed, for customers in a hurry and for people with special needs.

Bus stations serve a variety of people with special needs

Whilst we endeavour to embrace 21st century ideas, we also appreciate what our customers want. Whenever space permits, we aim to stock a range of Pick ’n’ Mix products. Our customers certainly appear to enjoy the difference!
